The Departed
A MUST WATCH!!..
Some call it Director Martin Scorsese’s comeback film…
It’s set in South Boston, and if you aren’t familiar with the area, it has some of the lowest poverty ratings in the city. In the movie, the city is ridden with crime, usually leading back to the Irish mafia.
The focus of the movie is so intriguing because it centers on two moles from opposing sides of the law. One being raised by the Irish mafia for the sole purpose of being a mole, and the other a roughed up undercover cop whose identity will literally be lost from all records. Both grow increasingly weary from their false roles, the constant lies, loneliness of living such a drastic lie, and from the chance of being discovered.
In my opinion you should just watch the movie, but to help you get squared away..here is a little character break down:
Matt Damon’s character - Colin Sullivan is handpicked by the mob boss (played by Jack Nicholson) from a very young age and gains his loyalty. Sullivan eventually is able to infiltrate the police force, and is the Mob Boss’s mole.
Billy Costigan (Leonardo Dicaprio) is what they’d call a rookie cop, and is persuaded by two higher-ups to go deep deep DEEP undercover. Sergeant Dignam(Mark Wahlberg) and Captain Queenan (Martin Sheen) will be the only two people on the PLANET who will know his true identity. Costigan agrees, and in the blink of an eye receives the trust of the mob and their boss– easier said than done.
From the outside we know who both moles are, but nobody else is really sure. As you can imagine things begin to get dark, they begin to unravel, and the stakes are high.
The whole movie keeps the audience on their toes, but I have to say my favorite part is the last scene in the movie….can’t give spoilers, but I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend giving this movie a watch.

I am intrigued. I wish I had the stomach for violence and the patience for movies.
I agree with this post, I wish I could watch it again for the first time.
This was a very good description and Matt Damon is a very good actor, will have to watch this !
